Why Pineau des Charentes should be your NEW HOME BAR STAPLE? - Forbes.com
Okay, Pineau [Pee-No] does not correlate with Pinot! Pineau des Charentes is a regional drink from Cognac, France. It comes in white, red and rose colours. It is produced by stopping grape juice fermentation by blending Cognac (aka. fortification), oaked or un-oaked. The 3 main grapes used in Cognac production are Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche & Colombard.
This very Pineau des Charentes Blanc from Cognac Bourgoin is crafted from 100% Ugni Blanc grape, matured in 350L barrel used for Cognac X.O. maturation for 12 months, then another 4 years in inert tanks!
It has remarkable acidity, freshness and elegance. Best to serve chilled or on rocks to create a crispy sensation. According to our Japanese colleague, this wine has a strong resemblance to "Vintage plum wine". Pro-tip: I would serve the wine with a balloon glass to uplift the aroma intensity further~
