The winemaker regarded his style as the "Meursault Aligote" instead of Bourgogne Aligote. This appellation has no legal existence but reflects how the winemaker imagines a great terroir wine with great concentration and the ability to improve quality over time. With this concept in mind, the winemaker named it after an old Burgundian classification of the 19th century: Hors Classe.
