Chateau Moncontour Tete de Cuvee
A traditional-method sparkling Vouvray made from 100% Chenin Blanc. Crisp, floral and quietly toasty, it is an easy, elegant way to open any occasion.
Château Moncontour dates back to the 15th century, and Balzac famously longed to own it. Since 1994 it has belonged to the Feray family, who make this Tête de Cuvée entirely from Chenin Blanc, the signature grape of the Loire's Touraine.
After its second fermentation in bottle, the wine rests at least 12 months on its lees, which gives it a fine, lively mousse and a gentle toasty depth. White flowers, pear and citrus lead on the nose, followed by a crisp, refreshing palate and a clean mineral finish.
Food pairing: aperitif and canapés, oysters and shellfish, sushi, grilled fish, goat cheese, charcuterie and lightly spiced Asian starters.
Serving: well chilled at about 6°C, in a tulip or white-wine glass. No decanting needed. Ready to drink now.
