2019 Champagne Rousseaux-Batteux Les Chauffours' Verzenay Grand Cru
Tasting Notes
A sleek, precise Blanc de Noirs from the Grand Cru village of Verzenay. Sourced from the Les Chauffours parcel (planted 1972–73) and made only from the coeur de cuvée, this 100% Pinot Noir was vinified in oak for extra complexity, bottled in June 2020 and disgorged in May 2023. Brut Nature (0 g/L) intensity meets chalky definition: red berry purity, citrus peel, fine mousse and a long, saline finish. Only 980 bottles made.

About the Producer
Rousseaux-Batteux is a family grower in Verzenay, focusing on limited, terroir-driven cuvées from old Pinot Noir vines on the Montagne de Reims. The “Les Chauffours” bottling comes from a tiny plot planted in the early 1970s and is crafted from the finest press fraction (coeur de cuvée) with oak vinification to layer texture without masking the vineyard’s chalky precision.
Food Pairing
Superb with tuna tartare, lobster rolls, poultry with morels, or aged Comté. The wine’s dry, saline edge also pairs beautifully with sushi and charcuterie.
